Ten cheetahs, three wolves and two alligators are being kept legally as ‘pets’ at people’s homes in East Herts. The revelation follows research by international wildlife charity Born Free that shows more than 2,700 dangerous wild animals are licensed to be kept privately in Great Britain. This number includes more than 200 wild cats, 250 primates and 400 venomous snakes, ten times more than in zoos – but there may be many more kept without a licence.
