Bishop’s Stortford’s Ahmet Kabayel has been named Chef of the Year at the 12th British Kebab Awards. The man in charge of Pircio’s kitchen in the former Drill Hall in Market Square received his prestigious accolade at a ceremony in London last night (Tuesday, February 27). The family-run restaurant specialises in Mediterranean food. Sponsored by Just Eat, the awards showcase reveals the kebab industry which contributes over £2.8 billion to the economy and employs over 200,000 people across the country. Britain is home to over 20,000 small and independent kebab restaurants and takeaways.
