The suspect in a shooting in the north-western state of Lower Saxony is a 32-year-old soldier, the German army or Bundeswehr confirmed on Friday. The soldier is said to have shot four people in the communities of Scheeßel and Bothel in the district of Rotenburg. One of them is reportedly a child. The suspect is not a soldier from a nearby barracks in Rotenburg, the police said. An army spokeswoman did not provide any further details about the man when asked. Investigators have not ruled out a domestic dispute as the motive behind the shootings but so far few details have been released.
