Former British ambassador to Sweden Andrew Mitchell has been named as the UK’s next top diplomat in Germany. He will take up his position in September, succeeding Jill Gallard, the government in London announced on Tuesday. Mitchell most recently worked for the Department of Trade. Gallard, who is to move to another position, took over the post in Berlin in 2020. During her term of office, Britain’s King Charles III made his first foreign trip as monarch to Germany in March 2023.
