Some 4.4 million Slovak voters were called on to elect a new head of state on Saturday as polling stations opened their doors at 7 am (0600 GMT). Voting was to end at 10 pm, with the result expected to be announced by Sunday afternoon. If, as expected, no candidate receives more than 50% of the vote, there will be a run-off election on April 6. There are no women in the field of nine candidates standing in the election.
