By Mariam Khan An incredible piece of history is being protected almost permanently by nature; the Lockheed P-38 Lightning fighter aircraft crashed landed in north Wales in 1942. The American fighter plane crash-landed onto a north Wales beach in September 1942. The plane, presumed to be USAAF serial number 41-7677, is buried about 2m below the sands. The plane has been uncovered three times since it crash landed, once in the 1970s, then in 2007 and most recently in 2014.
