A regional Protestant Church based in and around the German capital Berlin plans to exclude office holders from the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party from working on parish councils. According to a resolution passed by the regional synod for Berlin, the surrounding state of Brandenburg and the Upper Lusatia region of Saxony in the eastern city of Görlitz on the Polish border, the AfD is part of an “unholy alliance with right-wing extremists” that actively opposes democracy and the rule of law.
