The German Football League (DFL) started its appeal against having to contribute to policing costs around high risk matches at the nation’s highest court on Thursday. The DFL is appealing a decision from 2014 by the federal state of Bremen, under which football authorities must help cover the costs for extra security measures, at the Federal Constitutional Court. It has named a previous ruling in Bremen’s favour unconstitutional, and there are fears that other states could follow Bremen’s example.
