A recent leak on the Chinese social media platform Weibo may have shed light on Huawei’s upcoming Kirin PC chip. If the information turns out to be true, it seems that Huawei is preparing to release a processor that can match the performance of Apple and Intel.
The leak reveals the specifications of the alleged Kirin chip for PCs, suggesting that it will use the Taishan v130 architecture and have an 8-core processor with a clock (probably a base) frequency of 2.5 GHz. The graphics processing unit (GPU) is rumored to be 10-core, codenamed “Ma Liang 920”.
The leak also includes chip performance benchmarks. But you should treat them with caution, as their accuracy is up in the air.
The Kirin PC chip reportedly scores 11640 points in Geekbench 6 multi-core tests while consuming 30 watts of power. This figure puts it on par with Apple’s M2 and Intel’s i7-13700H processors, which have an average multi-core score of 10064 and 12203 points, respectively.
In Geekbench 5, it is said to achieve a single-core score of 1130 and a multi-core score of 8765. In the 3D Mark Wild Life Extreme test, it scored 6490 points while consuming 20 watts of power.
Additionally, Cinebench R24, another benchmarking tool focused on CPU performance in rendering, showed 72 points for the CPU, 680 points for a single-core processor, and 1695 points for a multi-core processor.
In addition, the leak suggests that the upcoming Kirin PC chip may support up to 32 GB of LPDDR5-6400 memory operating in 128-bit bus mode and providing 100 GB/s of bandwidth. It is also rumored to support up to 2 TB of solid-state drives (SSDs) and have three USB-4 ports.
It’s worth noting that these details are unconfirmed, and we’re not sure that the leak is genuine. Therefore, we should be a bit skeptical.
