At least one person was killed and several others were seriously injured on Friday in Israeli strikes that hit an area close to the Lebanese port city of Sidon, some 55 kilometres north of the border with Israel, according to Lebanese reports. It was not immediately known whether the victims were members of the Iranian-backed Hezbollah militia. According to Lebanese security sources, Israeli warplanes launched a series of raids deep inside southern Lebanon.
