Kyivstar provided Home Internet with equipment for uninterrupted operation in advance so that subscribers could access the network even in the absence of power supply. The company invested more than UAH 250 million in energy independence of fixed-line communications even before the massive power outages.
More than 700 thousand subscribers of Kyivstar Home Internet service are provided with uninterrupted access to the Internet even without power supply in their homes. Thanks to the installation of special equipment, the Internet will be available for up to 4 hours after power outages. It should be noted that current emergency and scheduled outages range from 2 to 4 hours.
Thanks to FTTB (fiber to the building) technology, which is used to connect Kyivstar Home Internet, during power outages subscribers can choose how to access the Internet: connect the cable directly to a laptop or power the router with a backup power source and distribute the Internet via Wi-Fi. For example, with PON (passive optical network) technology, both the router and the optical terminal need to be powered by a backup power supply in the event of a power outage, as the Internet will not work without it.
An uninterruptible power supply that is permanently connected to the router is more convenient for users because it can automatically switch and distribute Wi-Fi whenever there is a power outage in the user’s home.
“We have to not only respond promptly to military challenges but also be one step ahead. That’s why we started providing uninterruptible power supplies to the fixed-line network even before the massive blackouts. As we can see, it is relevant again today,” says Sergiy Sukhoruk, Head of Fixed Telecommunications at Kyivstar.
You can find out if your home is provided with an uninterruptible power supply by clicking on the link in the coverage checker form or checking the information in SMS messages from Kyivstar. You can connect Kyivstar Home Internet by sending an application.
Kyivstar continues to connect shelters across the country to the Internet free of charge. During the full-scale invasion, 1494 shelters were connected, and the company invested UAH 710 thousand. The company has also provided free Internet access to 1550 modular houses for IDPs and will continue to do so upon request to wifi@kyivstar.net.
