A controversial law placing restrictions on the foreign funding of non-governmental organizations in Georgia went into effect on Monday despite weeks of protests by pro-Western demonstrators. Parliamentary President Shalva Papuashvili signed the measure into law after President Salome Zourabichvili, a staunch opponent of what has been termed “the Russian law,” had refused to sign it.
