A Brooklyn man was sentenced to four years in prison Wednesday for a string of jewelry heists that netted over $800,000 in stolen goods, U.S. Attorney Philip R. Sellinger said. Tony Newton, 62, of Brooklyn, New York previously pleaded guilty to a federal indictment charging him with two counts of interstate transportation of stolen goods. Federal prosecutors said on June 1, 2022 and July 16, 2022, Newton transported stolen jewelry from Middlesex and Union counties into New York.
