New rumors from South Korea suggest that Samsung’s upcoming flagship lineup will undergo major changes. Galaxy S25, which is expected in January 2025, may depart from the usual strategy of using only Qualcomm Snapdragon and Samsung Exynos processors.

Instead, the S25 could also utilize MediaTek’s Dimensity chips, specifically the Dimensity 9400, alongside traditional variants. This will be a significant change, if and only if it happens, from equipping the Galaxy S25 with three different SoCs.

However, it is important to note that these are purely speculative assumptions. It is rumored that Samsung is considering such a change, but nothing has been confirmed yet.

The reasons for choosing MediaTek are the rising cost of Qualcomm’s next-generation Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 and production issues with Samsung’s Exynos 2500.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 reportedly costs about $190-200 per unit, and the 8 Gen 4 – $260. Such a significant price increase could negatively affect Samsung’s margins.

Additionally, the Exynos 2500 is said to be facing production issues as it is currently only reaching 40% yield. Mass production typically requires 60% yield, and while Samsung aims to improve this figure by August, there is still uncertainty.

Given these factors, MediaTek looks like an attractive option for Samsung. Especially considering that Dimensity chips are known for being more affordable than their Snapdragon counterparts.

Moreover, the upcoming Dimensity 9400 is rumored to use the same 3nm N3E process as the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 and may have similar performance.

Another aspect to consider is negotiating leverage. By presenting MediaTek as a viable alternative, Samsung can pressure Qualcomm to offer a more competitive price for the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4.

Ultimately, the situation with the Galaxy S25’s processor remains unclear. While the inclusion of MediaTek is an intriguing possibility, it’s too early to draw any final conclusions.
