A German mountaineer died on Thursday during a work assignment for the German Alpine Club in the Austrian Alps, Austrian police said. The 65-year-old man was with four club members when he fell and slid some 200 metres down a mountain in the Ötztal Alps in Tyrol. He sustained fatal head injuries after hitting several boulders in the fall. An emergency doctor, flown to the accident site at an altitude of some 3,000 meters by helicopter, could only confirm the mountaineer’s death.
