A Union County woman was charged with embezzling hundreds of thousands of dollars from a Union County synagogue, U.S. District Attorney Philip R. Sellinger announced Tuesday. Stacy Margaritondo, 51, of Scotch Plains was charged with one count of wire fraud after authorities accused her of participating in an effort to illegally take over $350,000 from the house of worship. Authorities say Margaritondo started working at the synagogue in 2010 and by 2020 had been promoted to manager and bookkeeper.
