The New York Mets have designated Japanese right-hander Shintaro Fujinami for assignment, the club said Friday, in a move to make room on the 40-man roster. Fujinami, a 30-year-old fireballer, joined the Oakland Athletics last year from the Hanshin Tigers of Japan via the posting system and was traded mid-season to the Baltimore Orioles. Early this year, he signed a one-year, $3.35 million deal with the Mets.
