French swimminng sensation Leon Marchand coasted into Sunday night’s 400 metres medley final but the Tokyo 2020 gold medallist Chase Kalisz of the United States crashed out. Marchand, who bettered Michael Phelps’ long-standing world record at last year’s world championships, conserved plenty of energy but still dominated the two heats – 1.21 seconds ahead of Briton Max Litchfield in the packed La Defense arena.
