Germany’s Alexander Zverev started his Olympic gold medal defence with a commanding 6-2, 6-2 win on Sunday against Spain’s Jaume Munar. Seven weeks after losing the French Open final to Carlos Alcaraz at the same venue, Zverev was clearly superior and the Tokyo 2020 tennis champion will also be the favorite in the second round against Tomas Machac of the Czech Republic. The German played without a bandage on his knee as the injury suffered at Wimbledon earlier this month didn’t seem to bother him.
