Several reports claim that Huawei will introduce the Nova 13 series of smartphones in August in China. The lineup should include several phones such as the Nova 13, Nova 13 Pro, and Nova 13 Ultra. However, the company has not officially confirmed these devices yet. Today, however, the company released a video teaser to showcase the design of its first Nova-branded clamshell phone, the Huawei Nova Flip, which will be officially released in China on August 6.
Huawei showed off the green version of the Nova Flip in the teaser. The device has a folding screen with a camera hole. On the right side of the device are the volume rocker and power button, both of which are integrated with a fingerprint scanner.
On the top edge of Nova Flip there is a microphone, and on the bottom there is a SIM card slot, microphone, USB-C port, and speaker grill. On the back of Nova Flip there is a rectangular module that contains a vertical block with two cameras on the left and a square auxiliary screen.
There is currently no information about Nova Flip’s specifications. Huawei also sells clamshell phones under the Pocket brand in China. In February of this year, the company announced the Pocket 2, equipped with a Kirin chipset for 7,299 yuan (~$1,000). Targeted at the younger generation through its Nova sub-brand, the Nova Flip is likely to have sub-flagship or mid-budget specs.
In related news, Huawei is also working on the flagship Mate 70 series of phones. Early reports suggested an announcement in the third quarter of this year. However, now that the Nova 13 lineup is expected to arrive in the third quarter, it looks like the Mate 70 lineup may be pushed back to the fourth quarter.
