Bank of Japan Governor Kazuo Ueda said Wednesday that its decision to raise its policy interest rate is unlikely to have a significant negative impact on the economy. At a monetary policy meeting, the central bank lifted the policy rate to around 0.25 percent from a previous zero-to-0.1 percent range. The bank will closely monitor economic data to see whether another rate hike is needed in 2024, he said at a press conference.
