South Africa’s Tatjana Smith led the 200m heats on Wednesday as she aims to become the first swimmer in 28 years to claim a women’s breaststroke double at the Olympics. Smith won the 100m on Monday and paced the 200m heats from main rivals Tes Schouten, the reigning world champion of the Netherlands, and American Kate Douglass, who has two silvers and a bronze from the last three worlds.
