The U.S. Court of Appeals has vacated federal approval of the $1 billion expansion of the Transco natural gas pipeline through New Jersey and Pennsylvania, a victory for environmentalists who say the project would sharply increase fossil fuel emissions and worsen the effects of climate change. The court ruled that the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission ignored studies that concluded there was no market demand to increase the natural gas capacity in New Jersey when it approved the project in January of 2023.
