German swimmer Florian Wellbrock, who won Olympic bronze in the men’s 1,500 metres freestyle in Tokyo, has failed to reach Sunday’s Paris final after flopping in the heats. The Tokyo 10 kilometre open water champion, who is targeting another gold in that event in Paris next week, was only 14th fastest in Saturday’s 1,500m heats topped by Ireland’s 800m freestyle Paris champion Daniel Wiffen.
