Huge plumes of smoke could be seen billowing in the sky as firefighters tackled a corn field blaze. Three fire engines and a bulk water carrier were sent to the wildfire in St Mary’s Road, on St Mary’s in the Marsh, near New Romney, at around 2.30pm this afternoon (August 5). Crews used hose reel jets to extinguish the flames and the blaze was out around an hour later. Pictures taken from neighbouring fields show plumes of smoke billowing in the distance. There were no reported injuries. The cause is not yet known.
