Beatrice Chebet passed world champion Faith Kipyegon on the home straight to win Olympic women’s 5,000 metres gold for Kenya before Kipyegon was disqualified for obstruction. Twice 1,500m gold medallist Kipyegon led the final sprint from an eight-strong leader group with 500m left but the 10,000m world record holder Chebet had more strength in the end to win in 14 minutes 28.56 seconds.
