The Nikkei stock index logged a record intraday point gain Tuesday morning as investors scooped up battered shares after the benchmark’s historic loss the previous day. The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average climbed 2,957.90 points, or 9.40 percent, from Monday to 34,416.32. The broader Topix index was up 207.06 points, or 9.30 percent, at 2,434.21.
