Bangladeshi President Mohammed Shahabuddin is set to appoint Nobel laureate Mohammad Yunus as the head of the country’s interim government, one day after prime minister Sheikh Hasina was forced to resign and flee to India following mass protests. A presidential spokesman told dpa by phone that the decision to appoint the 84-year-old Yunus came at a meeting attended by the president, senior military officers, civil society members and representatives of student protest organizers.
