Briton Toby Roberts scrambled to a surprise gold in the first ever Olympic men’s boulder and lead speed climbing final on Friday. He was third best with boulder points of 63.1 and also ranked third in lead points (92.1), meaning the the 19-year-old triumphed overall with 155.2. He became the first British male climber to qualify for an Olympic Games in Paris, after the sport made its debut in Tokyo three years ago, and only took up climbing after seeing it listed as an after-school activity.
