The Nikkei index soared over 3 percent in the afternoon on Tuesday, led by a surge in technology-related shares and the yen’s depreciation against the U.S. dollar. At 1 p.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average had risen 889.68 points, or 2.54 percent, from Friday to 35,914.68. The broader Topix index was up 49.66 points, or 2.00 percent, at 2,532.96.
