The Nikkei index extended its gains Friday morning, soaring over 3 percent as concerns over a recession in the U.S. economy receded, while the yen’s weakening against the U.S. dollar boosted export-oriented issues. At 11 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average was up 1,110.13 points, or 3.02 percent, from Thursday at 37,836.77. The broader Topix index was 65.35 points or 2.51 percent higher at 2,666.10.
