A little over a week before state elections in the eastern German states of Thuringia and Saxony, polls are showing an insurgent right-wing party on top. In a poll published by the opinion research institute Infratest dimap on Thursday, the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) is in first in Thuringia with 30% of the vote. The polling puts the Christian Democrats (CDU) at 23% and the new Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance (BSW), which combines left-wing economic policy with an anti-migration stance at 17%.
