Recent studies of gravity variations on Mars have uncovered dense, large-scale structures beneath sediment layers where an ancient ocean once existed. This research, combining models and data from multiple missions, also suggests that active processes in the Martian mantle may be responsible for elevating Olympus Mons, the largest volcano in the Solar System.
