An explosion damaged a building in the centre of the western German city of Cologne on Monday. A police spokeswoman said a wide area of the Hohenzollernring – a lively neighbourhood full of cafes, bars and restaurants – had been cordoned off and that a large number of police were on the scene. She did not initially provide any information about possible injuries or the cause of the explosion. Radio Cologne reported early Monday morning that one person had been slightly injured.
