A Rotary Club donation has helped a community centre reach its £28,000 target for new flooring, writes Bartosz Kanarek. An urgent investigation in spring found St Giles Community Centre, on Main Street, Balderton, was rotten, and even had standing water after recent heavy rain. As a result the hall had to be closed immediately because of the safety risk. The centre’s committee issued an appeal to charities and the community for help to raise the £28,000 needed to renew the joist, flooring, improve the damp protection, and increase ventilation.
