Tokyo stocks opened higher Tuesday, boosted by Wall Street gains overnight amid optimism that the U.S. economy can achieve a soft landing. In the first 15 minutes of trading, the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average rose 516.94 points, or 1.37 percent, from Friday to 38,240.85. The broader Topix index was up 24.69 points, or 0.93 percent, at 2,667.04. Japanese markets were closed Monday for a national holiday.
