People living nearby were warned to keep their doors and windows shut after hay bales caught fire last night. Fire crews issued the advice to residents around the Upper Road area of St Margaret’s at Cliffe, Dover, due to a large amount of smoke in the area as they tackled the blaze, just after 7pm. A Kent Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said two fire engines were in attendance as crews extinguished the burning bales. The cause of the fire is not known.
