Almost all Chinese digital radio stations in the Russian army are already running on Veda firmware. This was stated by military communications expert Serhii Flesh (Beskrestnov).

“The firmware has various options for protecting the radio station, which will turn it into a brick, for example, for reading attempts, for a series of power-ups without a password ritual, or just after a while. So if your trophy station suddenly dies, it’s not your fault,” the expert says.

Shortage of radio stations

According to him, the lack of domestic communications equipment in Russia in sufficient quantities for the needs of the army forced Russians to buy Chinese DMR radios of little-known or cheap brands.

Such radio stations have not very good characteristics and questionable encryption.
That’s why Russian programmers wrote their own software for a number of Chinese radio stations and called this project Veda.

Що дає Веда

What does the Veda give

  1. Modernized encryption algorithm based on AES.
  2. Inability to read keys and information from the station memory
  3. Subscriber IDs are not transmitted in the open, as in Motorola stations.
  4. There are also improvements to the software to improve the sound and additional features.

“That is, Veda is not a type of modern radio communication, but an alternative software for Chinese radio stations,” notes Flesh.
