Three people from Odesa organized the production and the sale of phone accessories under the Apple brand. The defendants in the case compensated the international company-right holder for all the damages caused.
Detectives of the Territorial Directorate of the Economic Security Bureau of Ukraine in Odesa region completed the pre-trial investigation. The investigation established that three men illegally sold counterfeit products: headphones and smartwatches via online stores.
During the pre-trial investigation, the ESB detectives conducted 14 searches at the suspects’ residences and warehouses where they repackaged and stored counterfeit products.
The searches resulted in the seizure of two cars, mobile phones, laptops, over UAH 160 thousand and USD 20 thousand in cash, equipment and accessories. The estimated value of the seized property is over UAH 30 million. The property was seized to ensure compensation for the damage caused as a result of the criminal offense.
The three defendants were served a notice of suspicion of committing a criminal offense under Part 3 of Art. 229 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (illegal use of a trademark, trade name, qualified indication of the origin of goods).The case was forwarded to court with an indictment.
Operational support was provided by officers of the Department of Detectives for Strategic Economic Protection of the TU ESB in Odesa region and the Department for Combating Cybercrime in Odesa region of the National Police of Ukraine. Procedural guidance was provided by prosecutors of the Odesa Region Prosecutor’s Office.
