At least 10 members of the security forces were killed by unknown assailants in south-eastern Iran on Saturday. The incident occurred in the province of Sistan and Baluchistan, in the city of Taftan, according to the state news agency IRNA. The authorities called the incident a terrorist attack. No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack but the militant Islamist group Jaish al-Adl is active in the province, among others, and recently intensified its attacks in the area that is among the poorer parts of the country.
