Labour MP Mike Amesbury has been accused of “smacking” a constituent to the floor after being “threatened” in a late-night taxi rank row. Amesbury, who was first elected to the House of Commons in 2017, suggested he responded in an act of self-defence. Footage of the aftermath of the incident circulated on social media, with Amesbury standing pointing his finger at a man in a firey tirade. In the recording, the 55-year-old said: “You won’t ever threaten your MP ever again, will you?” A bystander was heard accusing the Runcover & Helsby MP of “smacking” a constituent to the floor.
