Texas had solid down to down success against the Commodores but sabotaged themselves with 6 offensive penalties (10 overall for the game), four sacks and two turnovers. Fortunately, the Horns were a hyper efficient 9 of 15 on 3rd down against Vanderbilt’s permissive coverages and scored on all three red zone trips. 71 plays for 392 yards at 5.5 yards per play against a weak Vandy defense is nothing to write home about, but Texas took a lot of yards off of the board and put themselves into a lot of bad down and distance situations.
