German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier on Thursday criticized the German government’s proposed funding cuts to a fund commemorating atrocities committed during the Nazi occupation of Greece, as he visited the island of Crete. Steinmeier made the comments during a visit to the village of Kandanos, which was completely destroyed by the German armed forces in 1941.
