More troops than the 1,700 currently deployed will be sent to assist in the eastern Spanish regions hit by heavy rains and flooding, Defence Minister Margarita Robles told state broadcaster RTVE on Friday. The number would be boosted to the extent necessary for rescue work and reconstruction in the worst-hit Valencia region, she said, mentioning the towns of Ribarroja, Paiporta and Algemesí, where troops have not as yet been deployed.
