Germany has recorded a four-fold increase of cases of West Nile virus, transmitted by domestic mosquitoes, the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) for infectious diseases reported on Tuesday. The health authority said that at least 26 people in the country have been infected with the virus, including seven serious cases. In 13 cases, infections were detected in blood donors who did not exhibit any symptoms. The majority of infections have been recorded in Saxony (7), Saxony-Anhalt (6) and Berlin (5).
