Bad news for those who thought that in the future there would be streaming versions of the Choose Your Own Adventure books. Netflix is removing most of its interactive content.

There are currently 24 “Interactive Specials” listed on the platform, and only four of them will remain after December 1. Fortunately, these are the only four that most people have heard of. “Black Mirror: Banderites,” “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt: Kimmy vs. the Reverend, Ranveer vs. the Wild with Bear Grylls, and You vs. the Wild – all of them will continue to be available for viewing on streaming services.

The same cannot be said about the specials based on Carmen Sandiego, Boss Baby and Puss in Boots. By the way, Puss in Boots: Trapped in an Epic Tale” was the very first Netflix special using this interactive technology, released a few years before Black Mirror: Bandera hit the world.

This is a rather disappointing end for a technology that Netflix once promised to “double down” on. Company spokeswoman Chrissy Kelleher told The Verge that the feature “served its purpose, but now limits us as we focus on technology efforts in other areas.” Former Netflix head of gaming Mike Verdue also told Game File’s Stephen Totilo that the company will no longer release such interactive games.

Despite the ban on streaming content with gamified elements, the platform is still dipping its toes into gaming. Netflix has a variety of mobile games available for subscribers and even some real hits. However, the company shut down its AAA game studio before it had even released a single game.
