Tokyo stocks opened higher Tuesday, as sentiment was boosted after Wall Street indexes closed at new record highs overnight. In the first 15 minutes of trading, the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average rose 158.93 points, or 0.40 percent, from Monday to 39,692.25. The broader Topix index was up 25.42 points, or 0.93 percent, at 2,765.10. On the top-tier Prime Market, gainers were led by service, bank and transportation equipment issues.
