British oil and gas giant Shell does not have to drastically reduce its carbon dioxide emissions, an appeals court in The Hague ruled on Tuesday. The ruling overturns an earlier judgement that went in favour of the environmental groups which brought the case. That 2021 ruling ordered the company to reduce its net carbon dioxide emissions by 45% by 2030 compared to 2019 levels, and was seen as a landmark decision at the time.
