A 92-year-old man died in a fire in an apartment in the western German city of Recklinghausen, about 100 kilometres north of Cologne, the fire brigade said late on Tuesday. When the emergency services arrived on Boxing Day, the flat on the first floor of an apartment block was already in flames, according to the fire brigade.
