A chorus of a thousand yodelers came together in the Austrian holiday resort of Bad Ischl on Saturday to mark the beginning of the city’s tenure as European Capital of Culture 2024. The yodellers began their performance with a modern version of the ancient singing technique on Saturday evening, creating a floating cloud of sound in the open air before switching to traditional yodelling, “one of the oldest means of communication in the Alpine region,” according to the organizers.
